Four people, including three ETH graduates and a guest, came together for an exciting discussion.

The ETH Alumni OG Basel summer event is a traditional event that, in addition to interesting topics, primarily serves as a social get-together.

The ETH Alumni OG Basel met to try out something new. A fascinating sport on smooth ice. The atmosphere and the experience were as smooth as the ice.

The ETH Alumni OG Basel was able to organize a company tour with the topic of innovation and engineering at Endress+Hauser Flow. A tour through the various departments gave us an interesting insight into the company.

This year, the OG Basel carried out a 3-day excursion to Eastern Switzerland. There we could experience the development in the textile industry and in road and bridge construction. The social part with a visit to a small fish farm and a walk through St. Gallen was not missing either.

Keramik Laufen is a traditional and world-famous company with great regional importance. Giovanni Bonavia has organized a visit there. In the afternoon, the guided tour of the historic town of Laufen rounded off the program.

Anyone walking in the centre of Basel has to avoid a blue advertising pillar from time to time. You do this without really noticing the pillar, because it is nothing more than an easily avoided obstacle; its outstanding feature is to look completely uninteresting.

The topic of digital health is of central importance for the future of our healthcare system. The handling of our health data is of social relevance. ETH alumnus Bardia M. Zanganeh gave a lecture on this topic.

Seen from Basel, Puschlav is at the other end of Switzerland. Our board member Peter Jäger knows it from his childhood and later visits. Fortunately, he has agreed to bring this area closer to us. We were able to gain new insights into the everyday life of the residents.

During the summer holidays, Chapter Basel Alumni organised a summer get-together for its alumae and alumni with their families. Traditionally, the summer meeting is always held at a different location. On 5 August 2022, the summer meeting was held again for the first time at Häxehüsli in Reinach Baselland after two breaks in 2020 and 2021.

On 30 June 2022, 20 ETH alumni of Chapter Basel were able to expand their knowledge of the project "Remodeling of the Waldenburg Railway to BLT Line 19" during their excursion to the Waldenburg Valley. Association member Guido Nigg, civil engineer ETH, organized this excursion and accompanied us.

The excursion of the OG Basel alumni on June 10 led to the Holdenweid Impulse Center, the "Forest Laboratory" and to the watch manufacturer ORIS. 23 alumni and alumnae as well as accompanying persons had registered. In addition, we were able to enjoy the wonderful, pleasant weather and spectacular views over the entire Basel area.

Upon the invitation of the board, 18 members of Chapter Basel met shortly after 5 p.m. on 18 May 2022 for the annual general meeting in the spacious hall of the restaurant "Zur Mägd" in Basel St. Johann. 

A different kind of excursion: Inspired by the special exhibition "Earth at its Limits", Chapter Basel organizes an exciting opinion-forming event thereby attracting around two dozen alumni to the Museum of Natural History Basel.

Unlike usual, this year's general assembly of Chapter Basel took place only on October 26. This was due to the Corona restrictions during last spring.

For the second time, members of Chapter Basel Alumni met for their summer regulars’ table in Brüglingen on 24 September 2021.

As part of the ETH Alumni event “150 Years of Rigi Mountain Railways” a traffic excursion to Rigi was on the agenda on 16  September 2021. The trip almost fell through – the weather forecast on this day was pretty bad!

On 27 August, 28 Chapter Basel Alumni alumnae and alumni gathered together with their chaperones in Kaiseraugst to visit Ernst Frey AG, a construction company well established in north-western Switzerland.

On 8 July 2021, the usually regular monthly meeting of Chapter Basel Alumni took place for the first time in a long while. The expressions in the participants’ eyes reflected the joy of seeing each other again.

For the first time this year, Chapter Basel Alumni met again for the long-awaited monthly regulars’ table. Ten alumni joined the cheerful get-together.

After several adjustments, we were able to concretise the guided tour through SwissShrimp AG and enjoy it with about 18 participants.

Since one can remember being a member Chapter Basel Alumni, the Sommerstamm is a fix part of the yearly programme. Every August, towards the end of the summer holidays, the alumni meet at a carefully chosen location for a rather special dinner.

The Alumni of the region Basle met again after a half-year break at the well-known restaurant Gundeldinger Casino.

On February 5, 2020, the OG Basel Alumni met for their monthly social gathering. This time, the OG Basel Alumni welcomed 18 alumni, most of whom had probably come to check out the new locale for the old Guard. A success story!

On 6 November 2019, the Alumni Chapter Basel made its way to Rapperswil to visit the "Power to Gas" pilot facility of the Rapperswil University of Applied Sciences. Under expert guidance, 15 participants learned more about the process of extracting renewable fuels from water and CO2.

The Alumni Chapter Basel was able to enjoy an interesting guided tour about the transmitting tower St. Chrischona in Basel’s Bettingen. The overwhelming view out of the transmitting tower was one of the many highlights.

On August 24, 2019, 15 Alumni and their companions had to get up before dawn due to the early departure of their southbound train from Basel’s main station.

The traditional summer event took place on the 14th of August 2019, at the restaurant Bad Bubendorf in the most beautiful weather.

Field trip of the different sort from 14th May 2019: Local Group Basel organised an interesting trip to form opinions with nearly two dozen Alumni to visit Syngenta in Stein AG and the research laboratory for organic farming in Frick. Starting point is the "initiative for clean drinking water", that will be put to the ballot in 2020.

Despite of the Carnival season, five faithful members of the Alumni Chapter Basel met in a small circle for the monthly Basler Stamm on March 7, 2019. This time, a surprise guest made an appearance!

On February 27, 2019, 32 Basel Alumni – including only one of the about 30 female members – met for the 103rd general assembly of the Basel ETH Alumni Chapter. The event was held in the venerable Intarsiensaal of the Löwenzorn, located just above Basel's market square. The assembly commenced with an aperitif, once again sponsored by the Chapter.

The Alumni Chapter Basel organised an interesting excursion on November 7, 2018. It lead the two dozen members to Sissach and the company GF-JRG and the agricultural centre Ebenrain. After the company tour and a nose full of country air, the Alumni visited the castle Ebenrain, which they liked a lot.

6 adventurous members of OG Basel Alumni went on a fascinating excursion from October 11 to October 13, 2018. The trip led them to the building site of the Albula railway tunnels, through Soglio to Castasegna and then back home through the autumnal Grisons. It was a trip everyone will remember. 

16 alumni from the OG Basel Alumni took part in a guided tour of the Dornier museum and Zeppelin factory on August 25, 2018.

On August 8, 2018, the annual summer gathering of the Ortsgruppe Basel took place in the Unterbaselbiet.

On May 24, 2018, 18 alumni from the Ortsgruppe Basel and their guests met at the Infocenter of the Eppenberg construction site close to Aarau. As a first highlight of their excursion, they visited the tunnel construction through the Eppenberg followed by a visit to the company Rüetschi AG in Aarau.

The OG Basel held their annual general meeting on March 1, 2018. As every year, it took place in the historic intarsia room at the restaurant Löwenzorn in downtown Basel.

Am Dienstag, 28. November 2017, trafen sich Mitglieder der Ortsgruppe Basel Alumni vor dem Eingang der Firma Lamello AG, um diese unter der Führung von Susanne Affolter-Steiner zu besichtigen. Anschliessend ging es weiter zur HANRO-Sammlung, einer umfangreichen Sammlung von Kleidungsstücken, Werbematerialien und Firmenakten. 

Am Wochenende vom 14. und 15. Juli 2017 trafen sich die Alumni der Ortsgruppe Zürich und der Ortsgruppe Basel zu einer gemeinsamen Exkursion ins Wallis. Das Interesse galt den Umbauarbeiten der Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn (MGB) mit neuem Geschäftssitz in Brig und der Weltsensation der im Bau stehenden 3S-Bahn auf das Kleine Matterhorn.

27 Alumni der Ortsgruppe Basel trafen sich am 11. Mai im aargauischen Möhlin und besuchten das Service Center des kalifornischen Autobauers Tesla. Vom Standortleiter Rico Litscher wurden die Alumni exklusiv in die spannende Welt von Tesla eingeführt.

Am Samstag, 25. März 2017, machten sich 14 Alumni der Ortsgruppe Basel auf den Weg zur Deponie Elbisgraben, um mehr über die Entsorgung von Abfall aus den beiden Basel zu erfahren. Dabei erhielten sie einen spannenden Einblick in die verschiedenen Entsorgungsvorgänge. Krönender Abschluss war ein Vortrag beim Mittagessen durch  Prof. Dr. Rolf Schäfer von der Flint-Holding AG.

Mitten unter der Woche, am Dienstag 25. Oktober 2016, trafen sich 16 Mitglieder der Ortsgruppe Basel Alumni zu einer Exkursion im „Flight Operations Center“ von Skyguide in Dübendorf. Das Wetter war herbstlich und nach einer kleinen „betriebsbedingten“ Verspätung jener Teilnehmer, die mit dem Zug anreisten, konnte der Rundgang beginnen. Ein Erlebnisbericht.
