EPFL-ETH Pacific Northwest Alumni "Apéro"
Chapter Pacific Northwest Alumni
The second ETH-EPFL Pacific Alumni event was more informal than the first. It was held at the Tap & Barrel restaurant located at the "new" Vancouver Convention Centre made famous during the Vancouver Winter Olympics in 2010 and featured in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, although in the movie the building was in Mumbai.
Our objective was to commandeer a table overlooking Stanley Park and the beautiful North Shore mountains. Unfortunately, our endeavor failed, and our group was confined to the interior of the restaurant.
This event was attended by about half a dozen EFPL-ETH graduates (including 3 EPFL alumni) on a beautiful sunny summer evening. Members of the Swiss Canadian Chamber of Commerce again graced us with their presence.
Reminiscing about the past and discussing the future
Discussions revolved around high school in Switzerland, how each attendee ended up coming to Vancouver, what everyone’s field of work in Vancouver was and how the Alumni group could expand to include other post-secondary institutes from Switzerland.
The ETH-EPFL Pacific Alumni committee offered the appetizers, while drinks were paid for by the attendees. Not being able to sit outside was unfortunate and better planning for the next apéro will ensure we do meet on a patio!
Next event in September
We look forward to our next event, identical to this one but in a different location, most likely at the end of September, when everyone is back from his or her summer breaks. Detailed information to follow shortly.
