Guided tour in the Zürich-Mülligen letter center of the Swiss Post

Many of us have seen the huge building when passing it by train already, more than 40 ETH Alumni and Alumnae of the OG Zürich now also got to know the "inside" of the Zürich-Mülligen letter center of the Swiss Post on the evening of October 31st.

Thanks to our knowledgeable tour guides, we have learnt a lot how letters and small parcels are sent from A to B as efficiently as possible and what role the letter centers of the Swiss Post (the one we visited being the biggest) play in this process. Besides the "how", it was even more impressive to hear about the "how many"! Would you have known that more than 5 Mio. consignments pass the letter center every day? This is done on two floors measuring about 300x150 m (ETH Alumni and Alumnae can easily calculate the football pitch equivalent 😉), using more than 13 km of conveyer belts, and consuming as much energy as the whole city of Uster!

After the tour, we could enjoy an Apéro in the employee restaurant, providing the opportunity to keep in touch with old friend and to build up new connections. Offering one guided tour in German and one in English, we were especially happy to also welcome many non-German speaking members of our OG at this event.
