Cinema Event 2024
On September 28, 2024, the Luxembourg Alumni Chapter hosted a "private" film screening at 5 pm at the "Kinoler" cinema in Kahler. The invitation was accepted by 22 alumni. We ended the evening with a cozy dinner.
In the modern movie theater in the village of Kahler, equipped with 46 comfortable leather armchairs, a relaxed viewing experience was guaranteed. The chosen movie was a tough one, as it dealt with the meaning of life, death and love.
The movie "The Bucket List"
The "bucket list" is a list on which we write down the things we should do before we "kick the bucket", i.e. die.
Diagnosed with cancer. Carter (Morgan Freeman), a devout, happily married, dark-skinned car mechanic, may not have a great fortune to fall back on, but he does have excellent general knowledge. The white, unbelieving, cymic billionaire Edward (Jack Nicholson) is pushed into his room in the hospital. He also suffers from cancer. What Carter doesn't know is that Edward owns the hospital.
They both learn that their days are numbered. Carter draws up his bucket list. After Edward finds out about it, a joint list is drawn up.
Jumping with a parachute, visiting the Taj Mahal and kissing the most beautiful girl in the world are just some of the items on their list, which they work through during the movie. Of course, Edward provides his private jet and his personal assistant.
Edward has fun on the plane with the private stewardess and wants to tempt Carter in Hong Kong with a pretty prostitute he has paid for. Carter sees through the game and remembers his wife, whom he loves with all his heart, and breaks off the trip to see his wife and family again as soon as possible. Carter returns the favor to Edward and bribes the personal assistant to drop Edward off in front of his daughter's house, with whom he has been at loggerheads for years. This is too much for Edward, who goes into a rage. An argument ensues between Edward and Carter.
Edward learns of the death of Carter, who has not survived another cancer operation. Edward remembers one of Carter's wishes and an item on their joint bucket list: Edward reconciles with his daughter and kisses the most beautiful woman in the world, namely his little granddaughter.
Carter had explained to Edward that the Kopi Luwak coffee that he loves so much is made with beans that are excreted by a sneak cat.
Edward's assistant places his boss's ashes in a “Kopi Luwak” coffee tin on the Himalayan mountains next to the "Kopi Luwak" coffee tin in which Carter's ashes are kept, Carter being an instant coffee drinker. The assistant thus fulfills the last wish of the two men to climb the summit of the Himalayas. The last item “experience something majestic” can thus be crossed off the bucket list.
Dinner
The evening was rounded off with dinner at the restaurant "Die Stube in Hagen" 22, rue Principale, L-8365 Hagen, just 2.7 kilometers away.
