«Meet the Scientist» with astrochemist Susanne Wampfler

A journey into the universe, into the dark nebula, where the stars are born and to the building blocks that make up life. Last Sunday afternoon’s event for ETH alumnae and alumni with professor of astrochemistry Susanne Wampfler involved all this and more.

Meet the scientist

On March 12, 2023, 20 alumni and alumnae attended the exciting "meet the scientist" event with Susanne Wampfler in the Alumni Lounge. It took place as part of the Science City venue on "The Universe" at ETH Hönggerberg.

ETH alumna Susanne Wampfler talked about her varied work as an astrochemist: from her doctoral thesis on "OH" (hydroxyl), one of the particles in space, the question of "whether we are unique", to the difficult working conditions for radio telescopes and her current research at the University of Bern.

Intresting questions and an important topic

During the lecture, the participants asked a lot of questions. And afterwards, the inspiring discussion on the stars, planets and molecules in the universe continued. Last but not least, "Women in MINT professions" was a topic of discussion; a topic that Professor Susanne Wampfler is very passionate about.

When asked, the participants agreed on three things: The universe is fascinating. The discussion with Susanne Wampfler was exciting and enriching. And the event in the Alumni Lounge was an all-round success.

Thank you to everyone who attended.
