Public Eye Guided Tour
VESUV Alumni
On November 5th, 2019, we were guided through Zurich’s Bahnhofstrasse by the Public Eye association (formerly known as Berne Declaration), which told us about the dark side of the Swiss financial centre.
About ten members of the VESUV Club came together on November 5th at the Alfred Escher Memorial in front of the Main Station in Zurich. They took part in a guided tour organised by Public Eye through Zurich’s financial centre.
Interesting insights
Two well-informed members of Public Eye walked through the Bahnhofstrasse with us. They told us about the lucrative but often also dubious activities of Zurich’s financial institutions and the corresponding political actions.
The dark side of money
Starting at the origins of the Swiss banks in the American slave trade up to the current ways of circumventing taxes, they showed us the dark side of money in Switzerland.
Concluding discussions
After a walk of about 90 minutes, our members sat down with a cold beer at the Lions Pub and discussed the experienced stories and impressions. Overall, it was a very fascinating event.
