EPFL-ETH Pacific Northwest Alumni “Café Scientifique”

Chapter Pacific Northwest Alumni

On May 30, 2019, the first ever EPFL-ETH Pacific Northwest Alumni event took place and was attended by close to 20 EPFL-ETH graduates on a beautiful sunny Spring Thursday evening in a coffee shop at the edge of Vancouver’s historic Gastown.

scientifique

Marcel Studer, an ETH alumni, founder and owner of external page Econ Group Construction Ltd., spoke passionately and intelligently about the origins of the PassiveHaus standard and its emergence as the new way to build sustainably in British Columbia.

PassiveHaus Standard

At one point during his presentation, Marcel spoke about the Minergie system prevalent in Switzerland and compared it with the PassiveHaus standard. The approximately half dozen questions at the end of the 15 minutes presentation were a clear indication of the attendees’ interest in this subject.

Swiss touch

Alcoholic and warm beverages were provided by the venue (Bean Around the World) and a delicious cheese and charcuterie dish (from les Amis du Fromage) complemented the evening and added a nice Swiss touch to the event. Members of the Swiss Canadian Chamber of Commerce and the Swiss Consulate graced us with their presence as well.

Safe the date

We look forward to our next event, much more informal this time, scheduled for Thursday, July 25.
