Am 12. Juli 2020 veranstaltete das ETH Alumni Chapter Shanghai ein spannendes Webinar zusammen mit dem Chinese Science Club in Zürich. Beide der Vortragenden haben ihren Abschluss an der ETH Zürich erlangt. Der folgende Bericht fokussiert sich auf deren Forschungsthemen und veranschaulicht, was die teilnehmenden Alumni über die Forschung der Vortragenden gelernt haben.

A brief look into current semiconductor manufacturing industry
Semiconductor manufacturing industry acts as the core of current modern electronics, IT and internet market, playing a critical role in our daily life and national development. In this talk, a basic front-end manufacturing process flow of integrated circuits will be introduced first. Also, current semiconductor manufacturing supply chain will be briefly addressed and finally current Chinese semiconductor industry will be discussed.
Dr. Songbo Ni, PhD from Materials Science ETH Zurich, joined KLA since July of 2017. The current main focus is application development in lithography for manufacturing.
How to Avoid Emotional Trap? Affective Computing Gives You Help!
In the past ten years, AI has empowered machines in various ways, especially in objective perception, such as object or behaviour recognition. In some cases, AI even surpassed human performance. However, the perception of subjective concept is far from developed. For example, accurately recognising a person's emotion is not well solved. Humans are emotional. Emotions, or more scientifically affects, have huge impact on people's daily lives, e.g. work efficiency, physiological and psychological health. Therefore, emotion recognition and regulation have gained increasing attention from both academia and industries. In this talk, we will provide an overview and outlook of the state-of-the-art researches and applications of Affective Computing.
Shu Liu is a PhD candidate at ETH Zurich. His research interest lies in the area of Machine Learning and Computer Vision in the context of Internet of Things / V2V and Autonomous Driving. Shu studied Electrical Engineering at ETH Zurich (Msc) and TU Munich (Bsc). Before joining the Bosch IoT Lab he worked as a Research Assistant at the Computer Vision and Geometry Group of ETH Zurich. During his studies he gained professional experience in several research labs, start- up and industries.
