SuSoS AG was originally founded by Dr. Samuele Tosatti and Dr. Stefan Zürcher as a Spin-off from the Laboratory for Surface Science and Technology at the Department of Materials of ETH Zurich in 2004 and has since then established itself as a leader in thin-film polymer coatings and surface analytical services.

Coating technologies and innovations

After welcoming the Alumni, Dr. Christian Mathis, Business Development Manager at SuSoS AG presented the different coating technologies for low-friction, non-fouling, biosensing and adhesive surface optimization. Afterwards the Alumni toured the laboratories and newly built clean-room production facilities, where coating processes are developed from prototype level to industry-scale automated coating machines. In a demonstration setting, the Alumni could test “hands-on” how the lubricating coatings reduce the friction between two surfaces by a factor 10.

Dr. Stefan Zürcher, co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of SuSoS AG, introduced their surface analytical services which the company offers to help customers understand their product surfaces better. Using in-house X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy and Tribological instruments, the company studies the surface of products such as dental implants or contact lenses. As a result, SuSoS provides their clients with answers to questions regarding surface properties as well as customized research and development for new products.

Apéro and reunion

During the apéro that followed the event in the newly expanded office spaces of SuSoS AG, Dr. Samuele Tosatti, co-founder and CEO joined the participants for a long-overdue reunion with some of his former ETH colleagues.
