Biotech Alumni
Welcome to the Biotech Alumni faculty group
Biotechnology is a highly interdisciplinary science and is dependent on a lively exchange between academia and industry. Various well known Biotech companies originated as startups from research carried out during graduate studies at academic institutions. Due to the increasing importance and public awareness, ETH had founded the autonomous research department Biosystems Science and Engineering (D-BSSE) in Basel in 2007. Subsequently, the individual Biotechnology course of studies has been introduced in 2012. Being located in the center of the Swiss Biotechnology market, collaborations and synergies between ETH and industry leaders could have been established and strenghtened since then. To further promote the growth and opportunities of the department, it depends on increasing number of new highly motivated researchers and students, as well as on a strong network to Alumnae. In 2020 the D-BSSE will therefore move to a larger building on the University Basel campus to offer more space for current and future research groups and students. Congruently with the growth of the department, the Biotech Alumni faculty group has been founded in 2015.
The Biotech Alumni faculty group aims at establishing a strong network between former and current D-BSSE faculty members. The board thereby especially follows the following goals:
- Fostering the growing international network of Biotech Alumni
- Organizing events to maintain strong relationships and to further develop the faculty group
- Representing the Biotech Alumnae and the field of studies
- Creating an exchange platform for students, professors and industry
As a member of the Biotech Alumni faculty group, you will use the following privileges
- Access to the member database
- Participation at selected events (General assembly, Company visits, Discussion panels, Biotech Alumni BBQ, ...)
